One of the kitchen’s most dependable all-rounders, everyone’s favourite yellow beauty is a must for the fruit bowl this month (not your fridge, where skin soon turns black – like all tropical foods, bananas are much better off stored at room temperature). That’s because the weather is so nice and bananas are ideal for sunny situations like these: wrap in foil and tuck into glowing coals until the flesh softens, freeze then blitz for a quick, dairy-free iced treat or use to cool down a fiery curry.
Did you know? It’s time to share the love! As they ripen, bananas produce ethylene gas which triggers and speeds up the ripening of other fruits in the bowl.
