NEED TO KNOW
Not only do they have a honeyed flavour and aroma, figs also look beautiful. Simmered with sweet spices or served raw, they’re a terrific topping for anything from starters to desserts – take a seasonal Brussels sprout, fig, goats’ cheese and almond salad, for example.
Poach them in spices and honey before resting them on creamy rice puddings or cook figs until sticky and caramelised and serve with roast sirloin and horseradish yogurt for a delicious weekend meal.
If you find yourself with figs that are slightly underripe, store them out of the fridge. Figs do tend to bruise easily, so always handle with care.
