Gorgeous glossy cherries can’t help but make a dish look and taste more festive – they’re also very versatile for such a small fruit, and work equally well in sweet and savoury dishes, from Christmas stuffings to delicious desserts.

HOW TO…

Simmer them with cinnamon and nutmeg to make a festive red cabbage side dish or use them to add a fruity addition to a seasonal pistachio and parsley stuffing. If a sweet treat is what you’re looking for, combine them with almonds for a beautifully baked cobbler.

TOP TIP

A cherry pitter does the job well, but if you haven’t got one to hand a plastic drinking straw works just as well- insert into one end of the cherry and the pip should pop out the other side.
