Give the gift of taste this Christmas

The complete guide to all your festive needs

If you’re thinking of passing the apron to another host this Christmas (or booking a brunch) we’re here to say: you don’t need to. Why? Because Christmas can be a simple, fuss-free affair. This is your go-to guide for everything you need this Christmas, from special in-store treats to tips on what you can do at home to make life a little easier. The festive season is here. Let’s enjoy it:

Just look at us, whipping up a four-course Christmas meal for eight in two hours. We’re talking everything from welcome drinks and canapés to sides and desserts (not to mention the star of the show, our stuffed and rolled turkey crown). And you can do the same – we’ve wrapped up the menu, recipes, and a step-by-step plan so you don’t miss a beat.

THE FOOD

Turkey

Christmas isn’t quite Christmas without a turkey centrepiece on the table. Perfect the process by knowing how to defrost your bird properly (if you’re going for frozen) and cook it like a pro with all our handy tips. If you’d like to skip a few steps and get straight to the good stuff, we’ll have ready-rolled turkey crowns in store in the week leading up to Christmas.

Starters

From pass-around platters piled high with delicious canapés (we’ve a thought or two on what to choose) to three ideas with creamy camembert, you’ll know exactly how to whet guests’ appetites.

Sides

Browse our collection of Brussels sprouts recipes (love them or hate them, they’re a Christmas table staple). You can also liven things up with a side of wholesome mixed greens, go for these classic (and foolproof) roast potatoes, enjoy a colourful veggie mash, learn how to make your own tangy cranberry sauce or pick the stuffing that suits your tastes.

Desserts

No Christmas meal is complete without a few sweet treats to end things on a high. The best advice we can give you for a quick and easy dessert is to head to stores, pick up a pack of freshly baked chocolate brownies and print out this icing sugar snowflake stencil to create a festive feel. If you do feel like spending a day or two in the kitchen with your oven mitts on, we recommend wowing with a Christmas pudding (we like ours with cinnamon-spiced custard) or individual chocolate and hazelnut Christmas cupcakes.

From crafting delicious cakes by hand to baking brownies, bread and more with taste and health in mind, a lot of work goes into creating the goodies on offer in the Spinneys bakery. Find out more about the team and processes behind our baked goods here.

Leftovers

Just woken up from your post-feast nap and want a nibble? We’ve all been there – rolled back into the kitchen, reached for a few essentials (turkey, brie, cranberry jelly) and whipped up the best turkey sarnie (or quesadilla or pilaf) you’ve ever seen.

A day or two later and you still have food from Christmas? Try camembert, carrot and turkey croquettes, a hearty broth with parsnip and parmesan dumplings or a wholesome turkey and cheesy leek pasty bake.

THE SCENE

The tree

The shining glory in many a living room, the place for gathering sparkly-wrapped presents, the family meeting point on that joyful morning – if there’s one thing you need to pick up this festive season, it’s the tree. Our Nordmann trees are sourced from a sustainable, family-run farm in Denmark, on the forested grounds of the Broholm Castle estate.

You can find these, as well as Canadian firs and beautiful bright poinsettia flowers from the Netherlands, in store from 30 November.

The decorations

From baubles and garlands to wreaths, crackers, cards and gift bags, there’s a selection in store to help you get into the festive swing of things. If you have a little time on your hands (or little ones in the house) consider baking your own marzipan Christmas tree decorations or gingerbread garlands – they double up as adorable homemade gifts too!

THE GIFTS

Our stores are packed with surprises for just about everyone, from your tiny tyke's favourite school teacher to your neighbour. You can even make your own gifts this year. We’ve got festive baking trays and cupcake cases as well as cute candy canes and colourful sprinkles to get you started.
