It’s Thursday, the day of the week when papers are thrown into the air, suits get pushed to the back of the wardrobe and alarms are forced to snooze. Dubai’s got plenty of exciting things happening this weekend and as time goes quickly when you’re having fun, expect to see Sunday waving hello a lot sooner than you think. Here are our top five activities to keep you busy:
For the truckers… food trucks at Burj Park
Tonight from 5-11pm and Friday and Saturday from 12-11pm, Burj Park is awash with pop-up restaurants from around the globe. Journey from America, to Singapore, to the UK all in a matter of hours, or minutes if your appetite permits it. Expect an entrance fee of Dhs 50, under 12s are free. However, if you’re in the mood to stay behind closed doors, we’ve got the perfect way to recreate the food truck experience at home with a winning brunch menu. Whatever you choose to do, this weekend is all about the meals-on-wheels style of dining.
For the music lovers... Dubai Jazz Festival
The saxophones have started, the stars have warmed their vocals and we’re ready for a wicked weekend of jazz. Kick back on the grass and catch the likes of Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias and many more at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre from 8:30 pm today and tomorrow; find tickets here. If it’s given you a taste for the musical things in life, find out more about jazz in the UAE and how to host your own themed night at home.
For the night owls... moonlight yoga
Forget dancing in the moonlight, 2017 is all about laying down your yoga mat under the stars. The two and a half hour class (from 8pm) at Umm Suqeim Park will celebrate the full moon as a time of new beginnings; expect to go on a journey of mediation and discovery… all for Dhs 80. You’ll want to fuel up before the workout session and this beetroot and feta grain salad is light on the stomach (which is good if you’re sporting yoga pants), delicious and beautifully healthy.
For the triple threats… musical theatre
Today (and running until the 4th March) at 7pm you can learn how to 'fly high’ with Fame The Musical live at the Madinat theatre. If you’re in the mood for some over the top groovy moves, stage makeup and chipper vocals this might just be your bag. And what would the theatre be without popcorn? You’ll be the star of the show (or kitchen) with this ginger caramel recipe.
If you’re a funghi… cook with new vitamin D-enriched mushrooms
