Tasty ideas to beat the back-to-school blues

in the September issue of FOOD

Rather than bemoaning the end of the summer holidays, we say bring on that back-to-school feeling and all the best things associated with it: shiny stationery, brand-new kit bags and packed lunch possibilities. To add to the fun, we let kids take control of a week’s worth of dinners... and gave their favourites a healthy twist, including lean turkey burgers and veg-topped pizzas.

If the return of the everyday routine teaches us anything, it’s to make the most of precious downtime. An easy indoor picnic is our top tip for an after-school or weekend play date, while adults can entertain with a gorgeous leisurely brunch menu. After all, who could say no to dippy eggs with polenta soldiers or croque monsieur croissants? And if your schooldays are but a distant memory, embrace the nostalgia with our retro desserts – anyone for an apple crumble turnover?
