October is Breast Cancer Awareness month

A timely reminder for women to turn their attention to that area of the body

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, a timely reminder for women to turn their attention to that area of the body. We should check our breasts every month for changes; if you find a breast lump or notice anything unusual see your doctor and have it examined.

While most lumps are benign, they need to be checked to rule out cancer. If a lump does turn out to be cancerous, visiting the doctor early gives you the best chance of successful treatment; although one in eight women will develop breast cancer, early detection contributes to a 98 per cent survival rate.

Pink Caravan, the pan-UAE breast cancer initiative that aims to raise awareness – and funds – is holding an event on JBR Walk from 14-15 October, with free check-ups, pony rides and entertainment. Find out more here.
