Impressive recipes, pretty presents and festive magic

in this month’s issue of FOOD

The festive season is upon us, and while we may not be decked out in winter warmers trudging through snow we can still sprinkle a little seasonal magic and make it feel like Christmas. And in the spirit of giving you don’t get much better than all the foodie gifts and kitchenware available in store – just make sure you wrap them up nice and snug in one of our gorgeous gift wrapping options.

If food is more your idea of festive fun we’ve got a number of simple – yet impressive – recipes for you to try. Start off with some family fun and create your own gifts with the little ones, from lovely, easy-to-make lip balm and a stunning chai tea kit to homemade grainy mustard and salted caramel sticks.

If you’re hosting a Christmas party impress guests with a little luxury – canapés such as oysters on the half shell, lobster, avocado and lime lettuce cups and smoked salmon and horseradish paté are all winning combinations. For the big day, try a modern twist on tradition with a starter of parsnip soup with caramelised apples and walnuts, and make your star of the season this herb-rubbed roast turkey.

But what would a Christmas turkey be without all the trimmings? Pair it with roasted carrots and cumin, spiced red cabbage with cherries or Brussels sprouts gratin, and end the dinner with sparkling fruit jellies with cinnamon syllabub cream for a table full of cheer.

If you think that’s all we’ve got for you, you would be wrong – feast your eyes on inspired Boxing Day leftover meals like this spiced couscous salad and a layered Christmas loaf, midweek specials that spread the holiday spirit (we’re talking red cabbage and parsnip pies with spiced sea salt, among other treats) and four stunning dessert stacks to top it all off.
