Asian burgers with spiralised sweet potato and sesame fries

Serves: 2 Prepare & Cook:


  • 2½ tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 red chilli, deseeded
  • 2 lemon grass sticks, white part only, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 20g ginger, peeled
  • 2 spring onions, trimmed
  • 500g spinneysFOOD Beef Mince
  • 150g spiralised sweet potato
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 sesame buns, halved and toasted
  • lettuce leaves, to serve


  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C, gas mark 6. Put a baking tray with 1½ tbsp sesame oil in the oven.
  2. Put the chilli, lemon grass, garlic, ginger and spring onions in a blender. Blitz to a coarse paste, add to the beef mince and mix together.
  3. Form into 2 equal-sized patties and flatten slightly with your hand. Freeze for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the tray from the oven and add the spiralised sweet potato. Season and turn to coat. Cook for 25 minutes until crisp and golden. After 10 minutes, use a fork to separate the spirals then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  5. Once the fries have been cooking for 5 minutes, set a frying pan with the remaining sesame oil over a medium heat. Leave until smoking hot thenadd the patties. Fry for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until done to your liking.
  6. Add lettuce to the base of each bun. Top with the patties and serve with the sweet potato fries.
